How oat beta-glucan helps lower cholesterol
Oat beta-glucan (β-glucan) is a soluble fibre found in the cell walls of oats. It is one of the most-studied natural ingredients for cholesterol, and it works in your digestive system, not in your bloodstream.
- As you digest, oat beta-glucan forms a thick gel in the gut.
- The gel traps bile acids, so your body draws on its cholesterol to make new ones.
- It also slows down how much cholesterol is absorbed from the food you eat.
Clinical studies used 3g of oat beta-glucan a day. Oat BG22® is formulated to make that daily amount easy to reach.
